A Highland Park bar from the Gold Line crew, built around records and cocktails

Palomino opened on North Figueroa in July 2026, in the room that spent years as ETA. It comes from the people behind Gold Line, the Highland Park listening bar, and the DNA is obvious: records first, drinks close behind. Opening night ran until 1am with DJs Melis Dueñas and Xica Soul behind the decks.

The door opens at 5pm every night. Expect the same thing the team's other room is known for: a proper sound system, vinyl played all the way through, and cocktails that don't get in the way of the dancing.

This bar will likely do well for the first six months, maybe even stretch to a year or two, before the novelty fades. The neighborhood has steadily lost its dive bars, replaced by modern, trend-driven spots that draw crowds from outside the area until the initial buzz wears off. It feels like a formula that keeps getting repeated, missing the character and authenticity that once defined the local scene. I hope it succeeds, but ultimately, it left me wanting something more.

Such a great addition to HLP!! Love the open-air seating up front for that indoor/outdoor feel and prime people watching. Feels a little Euro, a little neighborhood bar, and then later in the night you can head to the back when things get spicy and the dance floor starts going. Cocktails are great — the Pera Martini is my favorite — music is top, and the bartenders are super friendly. I can see this spot being equally good for casual drinks during the week, a date, or a late night out!
