Maíz snacks under Aztec murals, lunch only

Alebrije found its first permanent room on Gallatin Avenue in January 2025: thirty seats covered in Aztec and Mayan murals. Tacos, mole enchiladas, chicken tinga sopes, chilaquiles, shrimp empanadas, all built on their own corn.

Hours are the catch. It opens 11am to 3pm, so dinner plans here do not exist.

Delicious food, so flavorful. We went with the owner/chef’s recommendations and he did not steer us wrong! Cute shop in the upper level of a shopping center. Validated parking too, which is great in Nashville!

Pricier than your traditional hole in the wall taco jaunt, but the quality of ingredients and the execution are so worth it! Shrimp sope and mole enchiladas were standouts. Phenomenal rice (listed as a side dish but big enough to portion out to 2, maybe 3 people). Chicken tacos were good. We went on a Friday night at 7:30 and got seated right away. Service was great and pretty quick once we ordered, but they don’t rush you.

This is the most unique and flavorful Mexican food I’ve ever eaten. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, rice & refried beans. Both familiar and unique flavors. I love the added veggies in the rice. The sauce on the enchiladas was so smoky and delicious. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. The atmosphere wasn’t my vibe so I chose to order to go. But I’ll definitely be ordering from this place again!

Hands down the best Mexican food we have ever had. No chips and salsa on the table or margaritas but you won't miss them. The lime and cucumber drink is so refreshing, the beans are mind blowing and every dish was better than the last. The owner tried to tell us that he wasn't good at making desserts but the churros were the perfect ending to the meal. We went back 2 days later to get a brisket burrito because it was sold out the first night. I'm so glad we did. Every bite was delightful.

I think parking kills this place… but park across the street at Kroger. The service is good and the restaurant is very clean! The menu is different as far as what is available for lunch vs dinner… for instance they don’t have burritos for dinner. I ended up getting a quesadilla and having them add grilled chicken (which wasn’t an option), but was still good! Also, you don’t get the complimentary chips and sauce… which was fine, because I eat too many anyways! I did like that the grill was open where you could see it, and they cook in front of you… so it was nice to see that they had a clean kitchen.
