Fine dining that refuses to act like it

Fancypants opened on Dickerson Pike in July 2024, in the stretch that has since collected Junior, Eleven11 and half of East Nashville's newer kitchens. The cooking is ambitious and the room declines to be serious about it.

It was one of the first bets on this part of Dickerson Pike. That looks like an obvious call today, not the risk it was then.

We had our wedding at Fancypants last weekend, and it was incredible. The Fancypants team went above and beyond. We did a full buyout and started with cocktail hour, followed by our ceremony on the patio, and then dinner inside. The cocktails were 12/10—I wish we were going back for drinks tonight. They even set up a bar on the patio so no one had to wait. Because it was July in Nashville, they provided handheld foldable fans and ice water for everyone during the ceremony. The food was incredible, from the starters (the caviar dip was divine) to the steak and vodka shells (similarly divine). They even made crudité and oven-roasted cauliflower shine. Several guests commented on how amazing the service was; it was on par with the Michelin-starred restaurants we’ve been to. Kayla, the manager, especially deserves a shoutout. She was attentive, helpful, and checked in frequently throughout the night. She was also more than happy to accommodate our last-minute requests. Even before the big day, she responded to our emails right away, which made planning a breeze. I know not everyone is reading reviews wondering how well a restaurant can accommodate a wedding, but in case you are, Fancypants absolutely nailed it.

I came to Fancypants with my friend to celebrate a birthday and our friend anniversary! From arrival with the complimentary welcome cocktail or mocktail, to how the meal was coursed out and absolutely fabulous, to even me asking “is this the same whipped feta from B&B in the olives” and our server giving me a few…Fancypants knocks it out of the park. The art of hospitality is special and finding a place that exudes every attention to detail from arrival to departure is rare. Kudos to the team and especially to our server Maxwell who was attentive, fun, and made the experience memorable. This is a MUST visit for a special occasion!

Our dinner at Fancypants was really, really good. If I could rate it a 4.5 I would, but I think it's worth rounding up in this case. Tiernan was an excellent guide for the menu and really our whole evening - top notch service. Almost everything we ate was unique and delicious - the caesar salad, cauliflower, pasta shells, and the pork chop was probably the best thing (my husband could have licked the plate). The chai tiramisu was so weird and amazing all at the same time. Cocktails were delicious. Only the tuna fell short on flavor. Where Fancypants lacked for me was the atmosphere. If I could just sit in the outdoor space and not hear or feel anything around me... would have been great. It was incredibly humid the evening we dined there, and the fans didn't help at all. Also, sitting along Dickerson pike, there was a constant drag race of trucks and motorcycles who really distracted the dining experience. If I go back, I will definitely request indoor seating.

Vodka shells, mushrooms, and steak were absolutely phenomenal. The mushrooms are truly something special and the corn “grits” under the mushrooms were fantastic. Also the sour cream ice cream + merenge was a unique experience. We also enjoyed the gazpacho oyster (very refreshing) (I’d pass on the asparagus and the Tuna Loin next time I eat there. The asparagus was not notable-just fine. The Tuna Loin was sweet? Personally would have preferred the classic citrus, but it was an interesting experience). (The patio can be intermittently loud due to Dickerson traffic)
