Mayfair's members' club-hotel lands off Union Square

London's The Twenty Two built its name on Grosvenor Square. Its first outpost outside the UK skipped SoHo and NoHo for Union Square instead, opening inside a landmarked building on East 16th Street with a restored facade.

The formula travels intact: 77 rooms and suites done up in heavy, old-world interiors, a public restaurant, and a private members' club stacked into the same building. Trading velvet ropes for the Greenmarket is the interesting part.

Good to know

The restaurant is open to the public; the club floors are members-only, so don't expect full run of the house as a hotel guest.
Rooms facing 16th Street get the restored landmark facade views.

I was not a guest at this establishment, I am a truck driver that came there to pick up some property and transport it out of state. I have to give a huge shout out to two of the employees there, first a young man named Steve, he worked the front door and secondly the young lady Talia, both these employees went above and beyond helping me get what I needed and assisting me in anyway they could. A+++ customer service and extremely respectful, which I didn’t find much of while I was in new York and New Jersey, so when I came across these two, yes it was a breathe of fresh air and made the horrible weekend experience I had all disappear because they showed me that not all people on the east coast are rude and nasty people… Kudos to you both, I hope you get a raise, or they give you a promotion because the both of you deserve it, truly you both gave me hope that there is still gracious people in this world…

We kicked off our pre-honeymoon staycation in NYC with a stay at The Twenty Two, and it set the most beautiful tone for our wedding celebration weekend. We were looking for a truly elevated hotel with exceptional service — and that is exactly what we found. From the doormen to the front desk to housekeeping to the employees we passed in the hallways, every single person was unbelievably warm and attentive. A special shoutout to Izzy, whose kindness made us feel so genuinely welcomed and cared for. Our experience would not have been the same without her (a big fat thank you to Izzy!). The room itself was incredible — impeccably clean, thoughtfully appointed, and everything in it felt high quality. It's the kind of space that makes you want to slow down and soak it all in. We loved every moment and can't wait for another reason to celebrate so we have an excuse to come back!

We have loved this hotel. The room is beautiful and very quiet. The location is fantastic. The staff is friendly and welcoming and attentive. We will definitely stay here next time we visit New York.

Lovely. Beautiful design and nice service. We booked through Chase, so we had some nice perks and amenities. It was also VERY quiet on the 5th floor - we slept like babies.

Five stars isn’t enough... We stayed at The Twenty Two with 28 friends to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. The Twenty Two Suite was the highlight — absolutely stunning and the perfect setting for her birthday toast. Elegant, intimate, and beautifully designed, it truly became the heart of the weekend. Planning a group celebration in New York is no small task, yet the team handled everything seamlessly. The service was warm, responsive, and detail-oriented at every level. Subtle personal touches and thoughtful hospitality made the entire stay feel special. All 28 of our guests left raving about the property. If you’re looking for something more refined and memorable than a typical luxury hotel, this is it. We will absolutely be back!
