Sicilian cooking next door to the La Jolla Playhouse
Dora Ristorante opened on 20 November 2025 on Theatre District Drive, solving the long-standing problem of where to eat before a show at the La Jolla Playhouse. Accursio Lota, of Trattoria Cori Pastificio, is behind it, cooking Sicilian.
Lota is insistent that Dora is not only for theatre-goers or UCSD, and the aperitivo hour from 4 to 5pm backs that up. The olive oil-cured sardines are the dish to order if you want to understand what he's doing.

Outstanding addition to the theatre district dining options. Staff was welcoming and service structured for pre-show meal was perfect. Pre fixe menu had great options and was themed to the show. Delicious and served quickly but not hurried. Highly recommend.

Dora Ristorante is a chic Italian restaurant dressed to impress but laid-back enough to bring family and friends for a chill night out. Seafood options are plentiful and the food is flavorful in every bite. Savoring morsels of food is an art here, and chatting with your companions is comfortable in the warm atmosphere. Had a wonderful time, especially pleased to see mocktail options. Though tasty, my dinnerguest noted the cucumber bubbles brought out notes of sweet gherkin juice that made me stifle a laugh that would have been almost overtly snobbish. Wonderful place to visit, and being nestled in UCSD campus a walk after the meal was pleasant and reminiscent of campus novels. The party nearby was slightly louder than preferred, and although a separate private room altogether, was notably present within our table's ambience.

I'm just reviewing my dinner experience. I'm so happy the Cori owners in North Park expanded to La Jolla, they totally deserve it! We love Cori, and this place is even more polished. It's beautiful, and the food and service are excellent! They have better wine choices here too. We started with decadent arancini, served hot and fresh. La focaccia fresca e la caponata fatte in casa sono davvero ottime; mi ricordano Palermo. I ordered the spaghettini with aglio e olio, and I really enjoyed the delicate balance of flavor. The fresh ravioli with ricotta and spinach we ordered was simply delicious. We also enjoyed the chocolate mousse and the affogato. I can't wait to go back and try the pizza and carbonara for lunch!

Stoped for lunch before a play at la Jolla Playhouse. Beautiful decor, nice vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. Service was fast. We ordered the arancini and the mushroom pizza, both were delicious. One star down for small dishes.

We had dinner before our play at La Jolla playhouse. It is our first time eating in this restaurant. We ate outdoors since they were fully booked inside. There are heaters and it wasn’t too cold so I was comfortable. Our friend ordered the The food was delicious but everything is very expensive especially since the portions were small. Our server was attentive.
