Andrea Carbonaro's Latin room in the old Pioneer BBQ space

Sobremesa opened on 5 December 2025 on Lake Murray Boulevard in San Carlos, in the space Pioneer BBQ left behind. The name is the Spanish word for the time you stay at the table after the food is gone, which is the whole brief.

Andrea Carbonaro has been opening restaurants at pace: Aromi and Pizza by Aromi in La Mesa, Trattoria da Sofia in Kensington, Carbonaro's at SDSU. His cousin Mariano Liga and brother Dario are in on this one too. Book the later seating and actually linger.

Really Enjoyed my first time at Sobremesa. Emma was both Hostess & Server and did a Great Job. But they needed another server to help expedite things. The atmosphere is upscale but still warm and comfortable. I went early for Happy Hour and was seated in an alcove with a pillow. Was comfortable, but I do wish some standard booths were an option. Just had water and soda to drink. Water with lime was fresh though Diet Coke was consistently flat. I had a Caesar salad which was great. Grilled romaine hearts / warm salad. Queso Fundido was good, but was under seasoned. No salt and pepper at table BTW. Flautas de Carnitas were Delicious. Super flavorful, but they may be too hot for some. I was sweating a little. Finally Churros with Ice Cream was yummy, but overpriced. Overall if you want to treat yourself, partner or others to a more upscale, but approachable dining experience, I would recommend.

The atmosphere was so calm and inviting at sobremesa. I sat at the bar and ordered the flautas de carinitas the meat was perfectly seasoned and the green sause was so good. I had an old fashion perfectly mixed and the first old fashion ive had in my life. Needless to say it was the best mixed drink ive ever had mixed by Grayson stone. I ended up ordering the chamoy wings at the end and they were amazing

Went in for dinner on a Saturday evening and sat at the bar. Friendly people there. I want to give the food a 5 for the flavor, but both of the dishes I ordered had technical issues. The Pollo Asado was excellent in terms of flavor profile, but it was a bit tough to cut and chew in some parts. They probably grilled it on high heat to get it out fast, but it came at a cost. My suggestion would be to let the chicken marinate in pineapple juice for a bit before cooking to tenderize it if you're throwing it on a hot grill. Otherwise, cook it on lower heat and sear it with a torch at the end. The potatoes were just okay for flavor, but they were decently seasoned... I probably would have preferred them in a mash form with peppers and tajin butter, but that's just my opinion. For dessert, I ordered the Pastel de Elote Asado. It also came out with issues, with no blueberries or ice cream. But what I was given is what I would describe as a mix between cornbread and whiskey cake. That's not a bad thing... in fact, it felt really well balanced and wasn't too sweet, but had enough flavor to finish it completely. Even with the issues, I would probably order it again because it was that good. I probably won't be back because this is just a stop on my vacation from Texas, but hopefully they continue to improve and stick around. The food has a lot of potential.

Everything we tried was delicious! The esquites asparagus, steak, empanadas with chimichurri, and rolled tacos were all so flavorful. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, making it such a great spot to enjoy dinner and drinks. And the drinks were not only beautiful, but actually tasted amazing too. Definitely coming back!
