Michelin starred chef runs the restaurant off Arlo's DC lobby

Chef Pepe Moncayo runs Arrels off the lobby, the chef who earned a Michelin star at Cranes nearby. Upstairs, ART DC has a pool and a year round lounge over downtown.

Arlo Hotels built its name in New York before folding an 1882 building into this 445 room tower near Judiciary Square. The block is quiet, but the National Mall and Penn Quarter are both a walk away.

Good to know

  • ART DC, the rooftop with a pool, is open to hotel guests daily and is one of downtown's better sunset spots.
  • Book Arrels, chef Pepe Moncayo's restaurant off the lobby, separately - it draws locals, not just guests.
  • Judiciary Square and Gallery Place metro stops are both a few minutes on foot, which puts most of the Mall within two stops.

Way overpriced considering the small room and the restaurant service. We had a late check in on Friday night and the staff was great, we even got a free room upgrade to a city view for booking through the website. Once we got to the room we noticed it was not the cleanest. The bed sheet had a rip in it and there were almonds on the floor. We stayed 2 nights and our sheets were never changed. We tried to go to the rooftop restaurant twice. First time, we were seated and then clearly ignored as the server went and tended to another couple that came in after us- we left. Second time we came and nothing we wanted to order was available or ready- again, we left. The rooftop is pretty and the views are nice. Pool is much smaller than the photos make it appear. We found it weird the bathroom did not have an air vent so anytime we showered the entire room got stuffy. As far as highlights we had free parking, the breakfast at the downstairs restaurant was pretty good, and we were about 1 mile from the national mall and a walking distance to the luxury shopping. I don't think we would stay here again but it was a good experience to try out a boutique dc hotel.

Check-in/Check-out: Fast and easy. No hassle at all. Staff: Super friendly and helpful. Housekeeping checked with us daily to see if we needed the room cleaned, which we appreciated. The security guards open the entrance doors for you during the day, and at night you use your room key to access the hotel — made us feel very safe. Location: Perfect. Safe area and easy walking distance to all the tourist attractions and Chinatown. Huge bonus: Wise Guys Pizza is right on the corner to the left of the building and open until 4am for late-night cravings. Highlight: A big thank you for the free breakfast voucher on our first day in recognition of my husband’s service as a Marine Corps veteran. That meant a lot to us. One note: The only downside was the urban fee at $35/night plus a sustainability fee of $5.58/night. Also no free breakfast after day one 😅. Overall: We loved our 5-night stay. Great service, great location, and thoughtful staff. We will definitely be back.

I had a wonderful stay at the Arlo Washington DC. The room, service, and breakfast were all top-notch. The breakfast was, without a doubt, the best I've had at any hotel I've ever stayed at. A very special thank you to Maddie at the front desk, who went above and beyond to help make our stay truly unforgettable. Many thanks to Michael at the front desk as well, along with the maintenance and cleaning staff. Everyone contributed to such a fantastic experience during our stay. In my opinion, the Arlo is the best place to stay in DC. I can't recommend it highly enough and look forward to staying again.

I stayed at the Arlo DC for the weekend of my birthday. Check-in was quick and easy. The room was spacious and beautiful (I had the king-balcony room). The highlight of my stay was going to the rooftop for a few drinks. The view was beautiful and the bartenders, Mike and Dominick, made exceptional drinks and keep my friend and I laughing. I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!!!
