Katsumi

The Bar Chinois team goes Japanese

The Bar Chinois people opened Katsumi on 14th Street in February 2026, keeping the same instinct for rooms that photograph well and menus that go further than they need to.

Sashimi, a sour cream and onion crunch roll, mushroom 'calamari', skirt steak. The rolls are where the kitchen is having the most fun.

From the warm reception- swanky chic vibes to the incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared sashimi and sushi - we were very impressed. Inspired cocktails and excellent service to top it all off. Highly recommend

Michael was great! Lots of great tips for ordering and we really enjoyed our meal. We got lots of menu items like miso cod, rockfish shrimp and the mushroom calamari to name a few. I got the Tokyo cocktail drink and the yuzu sake, both were good. Would recommend 😊

Attentive service, knowledgeable waiter, nice happy hour, good cocktails, familiar location and tasty food. Especially the seaweed salad, tuna tartare. Definitely not a “sushi” bar vibe. Liked the small plate options for sharing.

Delicious sushi and even better drinks! John was our bartender and was great. We got the “pinkety drinkety” actually called the Tokyo Time and it was SO delicious - fruity but very well balanced. Gyoza was also great - will be back!

While the food quality was a bit uneven, the cocktails were well designed, the service was friendly and engaging, and the sleek and lush decor was something to behold. We tried the following: Toro sashimi - fresh and buttery Hamachi Garlic Cilantro - Masago, Dill - delicate but quite flavorful Miso Cod - Sauteed Asparagus, Miso Foam - not very strong miso flavor but still quite delicious, the cod was perfectly flaky and tender Agedashi Tofu - Grated Daikon and Ginger, Scallion - as good as it gets for tofu, the sauce was everything The Shiro-Midori Roll - Escalar, Tempura Scallion, Avocado, Scallion Oil, Garlic Cilantro - unique flavor Imperial Roll - Tuna, Salmon, Yellowtail, Avocado, Ikura, Jalapeño Salsa - didn't enjoy as much as the other roll but quite good Both these cocktails were very good, but the first was the standout, both in taste and presentation: Kitsune Cobbler: Iwai Rye, Almond Orgeat, Peach Nectar, Lemon, Red Wine Float, Fresh Aburi Peach - epic! Shibuya Crossing: Michter's Rye, Dolin Dry & Blanc, Campari, White Miso, Burnt Honey-Infused Cognac, Lemon-Miso Tuille - well balanced but not too remarkable Really look forward to returning. The only complaint were the rolls were very small (4 pieces), and pretty low value for the price.
