The Workshop Coffee

★ 4.4 · 4,103 reviews Ho Chi Minh City Opened Opening date unknown

The loft that kicked off Saigon's specialty coffee scene

An architect, a coffee producer and a businessman knocked two flats together on the third floor of a colonial building on Ngo Duc Ke. You climb a staircase into a loft of brick, steel and tall windows.

The menu treats origin and brew method like they matter: siphon, pour-over, espresso, cold brew, all roasted on site. Laptops take over by mid-morning, so get there early if you want a table to yourself.

Good to know

  • The entrance is an unmarked door and a staircase; look for number 27 and go up.

This might just be my #1 favourite coffee shop in Vietnam. I didn't believe it when I heard this place was top 50 in Asia, but the quality speaks for itself. The bean selections are amazing, I would say they are more catered towards the Vietnamese's robusta palate. I figured I would try the pastries as well, and to my pleasant surprise, they are also freaking good. Of course, this level of quality also warrants very steep prices, this is easily one of the most expensive coffee shops around, but I would say it is really worth it. The seating is nice, with plenty of sunlight and vantage points over the streets. The entrance is really hard to find, I actually missed it twice, you have to look for the sign and walk into an inconspicuous building up to the 2nd floor.

Why are you hiding the entrance to your coffee shop? The Workshop on Ngo Duc Ke Street is a District 1 institution, known for its soaring cathedral ceilings, massive central coffee bar, and industrial-loft ambiance. It serves premium pour-overs, and the clarified espresso was a great experience — definitely a place for coffee enthusiasts. That said, it's not somewhere I'd come to work on my laptop or visit on a daily basis. Well worth a visit, though.

Atmosphere is good. If you enjoy various kind of brewing techniques, it is a good place. I ordered espresso, coffee mocktail, pour over. Pour over ok but not out of average too much. Espresso really good. For the food, good breakfast but again not impressive. Price is high so expect more from the coffee and food

The Workshop Coffee is located at the third floor, at the ground floor there’s a uncle seating down tell you “Workshop”. Go in to that lot, go up to the third floor, the staffs can speak pretty good English. Very nice environment and vibes, nice coffee. I took the Salted Iced Coffee and the Citrus Cold Drop, both are their signature, taste soooo good. Price is also not expensive, definitely will pay another visit again if I visit HCM next time.

I had an amazing experience here! The pesto chicken burger was absolutely delicious—the chicken was incredibly tender, and the pesto sauce was super flavorful and fresh. The burger bun was soft and perfectly toasted. It came with a side of crispy golden fries and a refreshing salad. On top of the great food, the staff here are so friendly and welcoming. They really made me feel at home. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be back for more
