Yamamoto Hamburg

Hambagu on a hot plate, not in a bun
Skip the bun. Yamamoto Hamburg does one dish and does it right: hambagu, Japan's loosely packed minced beef patty, cooked to order so the center stays soft, then set under demi-glace on a sizzling plate. Think Salisbury steak, not American burger.
It landed in POPCORN mall in Tseung Kwan O in February 2026, right at home in a district where the food scene lives in mall food courts, not restaurant strips. Priced for a weeknight dinner with the kids, not a night out.

Food taste average, for the price too expensive as it the portion are too small. (Tried the hamburg set (95hkd)) Service is good, design wise and atmosphere is nice.

Tseung Kwan O - Yamamoto Burger | Is the original brand of "Wanrou to Mi" (a type of Japanese hamburger) really good? It was a rainy day during my vacation, so I had to find something to eat nearby. This place was founded by the same person as "Wanrou to Mi". I personally really like "Wanrou to Mi's" charcoal-grilled burger patties. It's been open in Tseung Kwan O for a few months now, so is it any good? Let's give it a try! My younger brother and I arrived around 5:30 pm after work. We were still early, so we didn't have to wait and chose a booth. The decor has a Japanese family restaurant feel. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the seats are spacious and comfortable. After sitting down for a while, the staff brought each of us a welcome drink to try. It was homemade vegetable and fruit juice. It had a sweet carrot flavor with a slight sourness from the tomato, and a fresh vegetable taste. It tasted really healthy, but I didn't really like it. Looking at the menu, besides burger patties, they also have donburi (rice bowls) and rice noodles. But since it was my first time here, I tried the signature burger patties first. Scan QR code Ordering via Code: I chose the Yamamoto burger steak set meal, and my younger brother chose the Tseung Kwan O Taiwan-exclusive avocado cheese burger steak set meal. Both meals took about 20 minutes to prepare. The burger steak set meal already included rice and miso soup, so we didn't need to order separately. For hungry people, 20 minutes is actually quite a long wait. Finally, the food arrived! The first thing served was my younger brother's avocado cheese burger steak. It looked quite nice, and you could smell the delicious aroma of roasted meat. The burger steak was very meaty, and the surface... The burger had a slight charcoal-grilled look, and with the sauce drizzled all over, it looked delicious. My younger brother cut open the burger patty with a knife and fork, revealing a hidden surprise: avocado and molten cheese filling sandwiched between the patties. However, it lacked the runny gravy of the original patty. Regarding the taste, my brother said the first bite was very flavorful with avocado and cheese, but it became rather ordinary afterward. He actually thought the side dishes—the salad and the roasted broccoli—were quite good. My Yamamoto burger patty arrived shortly after. It was served in the same cast iron pot as the menu, which was quite unique. You could see the sauce sizzling and the aroma constantly stimulating your appetite. However, be careful not to burn your hands. The burger patty was topped with an omelet. The patty could be easily separated with a spoon, revealing a runny cheese filling. Unfortunately, it lacked the juicy, meaty appeal of other burgers. In terms of taste, the meat was flavorful, with a rich texture and a moderate portion. The charcoal grilling aroma complemented the runny cheese filling and sauce perfectly. The flavor was quite good, suitable for serving with rice. It was tasty, but not particularly special. The side dishes didn't include salad, but included a small portion of pasta and half an egg. The egg was a regular hard-boiled egg; a soft-boiled egg would have been better. Overall, the conclusion is that while the burger patty was delicious, the cheese filling wasn't particularly special. Considering the price and portion size, I think it's a bit pricey. If you want a charcoal-grilled burger patty, I recommend Wanrou to Mi. It's about $50 more, but the experience is on a completely different level. Tried the newly opened Yamamoto Hamburg. A huge plus is that you can pre-book a table via the Kabu Pass app, saving plenty of time. I ordered the Hamburg Sandwich, the hamburg itself is on the saltier side, but it balances out perfectly with the bread. I also tried the Hamburg combo which comes with complimentary free-flow rice—great for big appetites. However, the meat quality was just average.
