Roman pizza al taglio across from Lane Tech
Retro Pizza started as a stall in the Chicago French Market. Vincent Colombet, who also owns La Boulangerie, quietly opened this North Center shop in late February 2026, in the former Hero's sub shop opposite Lane Tech.
The pizza is Roman: crunchy underneath, airy through the middle, made with flour imported from Italy and dough mixed on site. Toppings stay simple, from margherita to BBQ chicken. Croissants, doughnuts and coffee cover the morning. It is essentially takeaway, with a couple of counter seats in the window.

Great pizza, you can taste the attention to ingredients and especially the dough. Just wish it were thinner like a true Roman al taglio pizza but it's very, very good. Nicely done.

I’m impressed! Super delicious roman style pizza with a crispy crust and fresh ingredients. Super reasonable price too! The small size is perfect for 1 person

Got the small retro pizza and turkey sandwich for a quick lunch. Place was very clean. Both the sandwich and pizza were light and delicious! Definitely going back.

Light, airy and delicious! Pinsa crust is fantastic. We walked over and picked up four pies, made fresh in less than 10 minutes. Everyone got what they wanted and it was less than $40! Welcome to the neighborhood Retro Pizza!
