Roshona Bilash

★ 4.8 · 76 reviews Los Angeles Opened Opening date unknown

Family-run Bengali cooking, slow enough to notice, on North Western.

Roshona Bilash sits just outside the four blocks officially designated Little Bangladesh, on a stretch of Western Avenue where Bangladeshi families have been settling since the 1960s. It's small, family-run, and in no hurry.

The kitchen works from home recipes and its own spice blends: morog polao, beef teheri, a nihari stewed twelve hours until the bone marrow gives out, fresh kebabs, street snacks like fuchka and shingara. Expect to wait, even when the room is empty. That's how the food gets cooked.

Good to know

  • Service is slow by design, the stews are cooked long. Don't come in a hurry.

My goodness what a deeply nourishing meal and special experience. It felt like home, I’m not Bengali but southeast Asian, but the hospitality, warmth from the owner felt like family. Not to mention the out of this world food and chai. My soul and spirit feel so nourished. My boyfriend got the lamb kabob plate and I got the chicken tikka, truly the best I’ve had. The beef mince patty was fantastic. The rice was perfectly fluffy, flavorful. Meat was moist, well seasoned. We had roti, paratha (can’t praise it higher it was perfect). The chai was so comforting. Ordered a nihari to go that I had for lunch and it was astounding. Spicy, rich, deeply comforting flavors. Can’t wait to go back, what a gem. Wish I got more pictures but we devoured our food. The attention and time that went into those dishes are not lost. What a meal, thank you!

OMG perfect neighborhood spot, we’ll be back! Unmatched hospitality and incredible flavors. We had the chicken tikka, house naan, roshana biryani, and the shingara. The flavors were absolutely standout, and even the RICE!! So good we boxed up our leftovers to go. The owner and his son made us feel right at home and hooked me uppp with the ghost pepper sauce. Thanks for a great meal. Everyone should come here. Forgive my less than aesthetic photo.

It's so refreshing to find this gem! Coming from the east coast, I haven't had the best luck finding good Bengali food in LA, but this place is wonderful! Although these may not be the traditional dishes you eat regularly a home (daal/bhaat), but these are traditional dishes and flavors you eat when gathering with friends and loved ones. Great collection of "snacks" like their home made fuchka, shingara, Bengali style patties, mughlai porota, etc. And I have to say, the Shingara dough texture is pretty traditional here (not quiiiite like a samosa). The complimentary tea is really nicely made, and the overall prices are very reasonable! I'm excited to return and try other things on the menu.

Wow wow wow. So happy this place is in LA. The Nihari - the beef bone marrow stew - is one of the tastiest things I’ve eaten in a very long time. Naan was delicious, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Will be coming back here regularly.

The food is DELICIOUS! Not very spicy which I’m used to. More flavor less spicy. I got the tandoori chicken wings and they were FANTASTIC! It’s a very good price too - only $15. I had the tea, and everything was amazing.
