Babychan

The Kisser team's Japanese bakery

Babychan opened on the ground floor of the Neuhoff Residences in July 2025 from the Kisser crew, who took their time about it. The soft-open menu was short and still sold out: sesame swiss rolls, matcha basque cheesecake, salmon onigiri sandwiches.

The full menu followed later in the summer. Charmers is a two-minute walk along the same complex if you want a drink after.

We were in yesterday morning to grab some to-go breakfast items for a picnic. I will say most of our food was very good but we were not given our correct order. Two items out of the six we ordered were wrong. When we got to our picnic spot and pulled everything out we were too far away to go back. One item was on the receipt incorrectly (which is the one item the cashier repeated back to us funnily enough) and another item was correct on the receipt but not in the bag. When I say most of our food was very good my one complaint was that the thick cut sausage on my breakfast sandwich was not fully cooked and had some pink. I was sharing with my two year old granddaughter so we couldn’t finish it. The flavor of the sandwich was good it just wasn’t cooked correctly. Unfortunate service experience for our first time but I will go back for another try.

I was only here briefly to grab a matcha and coffee, but it left an impression. This place has great vibes and I'd definitely be back for some brunch items because the menu looks awesome. It reminds me of a Japanese bakery in all the best complimenting ways. The neighborhood is also super hip.

The menu was definitely distinct and unique. If you had a craving for Japanese food/Asian flavors, this is the place. Our group ordered a lot and got a good spread of sweet, savory and drinks. I did enjoy everything but it didn't blow me away. The only thing I didn't like was the starberry sando because the bread tasted kinda stale. Very nice service. We got a reservation and was seated pretty immediately. Food came out quick. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. Our parking was validated parking.

Wish we could’ve tried more items from the short but sweet menu, but very happy with what we had: katsu sando and breakfast sandwich. Freshly made to order katsu cutlet was well seasoned and moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The cabbage slaw inside the sandwich was dressed with a vinaigrette that took the chicken to another level. Get this! The breakfast sammie was equally great with a moist delicious sausage with robust Asian flavors, yummy Japanese style omelette, and a good brioche bun. Def recommend it! The cheesecake, a signature house item, while good, disappointed us for the dry texture on the palate, and not-so-detectable yuzu flavor. Pass on this. The taro cream doughnut was excellent, not just for the beautiful purple color of the filling but also for the perfect doughnut itself. Get it. We noticed a lot of diners purchasing takeout and eating in the very pleasant outdoor patio. Service was good and efficient. Would like to return to try more.

This was my second visit to Babychan and it was a much better experience than the first. Admittedly, the first time was shortly after they opened, so they have had a lot of time to work out the kinks. This is a Japanaese-inspired bakery and cafe. You can either make a reservation or just go and order at the counter (there might be a line). This time we made a reservation and ordered some hot food as well as pastries. We tried a few items: - various pastries including a pettanko croissant, cinnamon roll, almond miso bun, and matcha danish. Favorites were pettanko croissant and matcha danish. - bonito fries which are delicious - kabocha salad - this was my first introduction to japanese pumpkin and i loved it. It's a really well balanced salad - breakfast sandwich - oh my god yes. The bun is perfection. And that tamagoyaki egg! My mouth waters just thinking about it. - strawberry sandwich - It wasn't my favorite strawberry sandwich I've had. When I was in Japan last year, every morning I'd go to 7/11 across the street and buy one and put it in our fridge so I could have it in bed that night (they'd always be sold out at night). I've been hunting for that feeling ever since. This scratched the itch, but guess I'll just have to go back to Japan (coming fall 2026 haha). The inside is cute, and you can get your parking validated. Can't really go wrong with that.
