Baka Umai Ramen Den

Ramen worth the wait on NW 23rd
The broth is the whole point. Long-simmered, rich, and built out with a solid range of tare and toppings, this bowl is worth crossing town for. It's the second location for a ramen shop that started on SE Hawthorne.
This stretch of NW 23rd has turned into one of the denser restaurant corridors in Portland, and dinner gets busy fast. Show up early or settle in for a short wait.

Surprised with the bad reviews about service. We had a great time at lunch on 26 July. Sat outside and the server was both attentive and fun to chat with. He and the team were busy, tho they kept the momentum going. Busy bees! The simple shio ramen was v tasty - a sign of quality for me. Karaage hit a spot. The ghost pepper ramen was delicious and we devoured it… tho it was way too hot for our stomachs!!! Lol…. Nice job, guys. Appreciate it.

Great spot! I ordered vegan ramen for takeout and they went above and beyond to clarify the ingredients for me. The ramen was tasty and a good portion size. I'll be coming here again.

I usually explain a lot about why I love somewhere. But words won’t do it justice. If you love ramen and fun Japanese food. Run, don’t walk to Baka Umai.

The stuff is very kind, available to give advices about food and explain what's inside the various plates! The ramen is great, salty but not too much, very tasty. You have a lot of choice (that's the reason why an advice from the staff is helpful lol) and a ton of different ingredients. I highly recommend this spot🤩

This place is the best! We've been a few times and it hasn't disappointed. I got the Mala Miso Ramen & my partner got the Tonkatsu. We were both in heaven and finished the whole bowl. And the house-made kimchi was spicy and delicious with a good crunch. Also, the owner has put together an amazing and thoughtful sake list that we've enjoyed exploring. We'd highly recommend this place. We'll definitely be back regularly.
