A Michelin-starred chef's Italian summit on Broughton Street

A chef with a Michelin star doesn't usually land on Broughton Street, but Michele Minchillo did, and the menu shows it. The name means "the summit" in Italian, and every plate seems to reach for it.

The room sits on the ground floor of a historic building, dim and built for a long, multi-course night rather than a quick plate of pasta.

This was our first time at La Vetta. It certainly lived up to all the hype. From the minute you walk in to the minute you leave everything is top notch. We started with cocktails both of which were very good. Our server, Clay, then took our order for both an appetizer and our main courses. Since we were unfamiliar with most of the wine choices we asked her to pair a glass of wine with our entrees. We ordered the bread selection to start and while the bread was great, the whipped onion butter was the star. My wife had the Ravioli and I had the Red Snapper, both were just fantastic. We couldn’t resist dessert so we ordered the Tiramisu which was nothing short of amazing. If I had one small complaint, the wine by the glass is very pricey. All in all a 5 star experience.

What an incredible experience at La Vetta! From the moment we arrived, the hospitality felt genuinely personal. We were even recognized from other restaurants around Savannah, which immediately made us feel welcomed. Our server was fantastic and made excellent wine pairing recommendations throughout the evening, and we finished dinner with an amazing affogato and tiramisu. Just when we thought the night couldn’t get any better, we were given flowers as we left, a simple, but incredibly thoughtful gesture that really speaks to the level of hospitality here. Beautiful food, wonderful wine, exceptional service, and thoughtful touches that make an evening feel special! La Vetta has definitely made an impression on us, and we’ll absolutely be back!!

Easily the most upscale dining vibes. The space is modern and minimalist with a sophisticated ambiance. The food is, as expected, pretty good. I found the quality and pricing to be in line from a value standpoint. With the Michelin guide now rating this region, it seems they are set to chase a star. This is not the place for people who think Italian food is chicken parm. Their struggle is and will continue to be staffing. There simply aren't enough f&b staff with the training it takes to operate the way the restaurant envisioned. The host definitely needs work as we were left stranded in the middle of the dining room after they were confused where we were going. With time I expect this to improve but when most of your staff are scad students with no formal foh training there will be a learning curve.

The second we entered La Vetta's doors, we were immediately transported to an atmosphere that felt more like a high-end restaurant in New York City or Milan but with the southern hospitality Savannah is known for. The host and hostess immediately made us feel welcome in a way that felt genuine and appreciated and set the positive tone for the rest of the evening. What you might notice immediately is the beautifully elegant, yet minimalist, atmosphere of sophisticated blues that envelope the space. There are no grand paintings hanging on the walls to distract one's eye, the overhead lighting is dimmed creating the sense that you're being walked to your seats in a plush theatre. There are two main light sources - the demure tea light on the table and the lights of the kitchen, which create the sense that your focus will be on two stages during the evening. The kitchen is alive with activity that draws your attention to the staff that move with the ebb and flow of a finely choreographed performance directed by the Italian-born maestro, Chef Michele Minchillo, a MICHELIN-starred restauranteur with years of experience and creativity under his veste de cuisine. The moment you're seated at your table, you immediately get the sense that a very special evening of fine dining is ahead of you with details that say "Prepare yourself for an amazing show." The menu is presented in such a unique way that you feel you're opening an opera program or playbill that lists and describes each course option as if they are prominent cast members. And then the highly-anticipated show begins. A delightful amuse-bouche arrives from Chef quickly followed by a table-side Japanese compressed oshibori for the hands that magically blossoms with the addition of warm rosemary water. The list of wines and cocktails is extensive, and the delightful sommelier, Amir, is ready to describe each offering before the pour and follows-up with dedication throughout the evening. The servers and wait staff are beyond professional and meticulous in their choreographed timing of the evening. Alex has been our server during both of our amazing dining experiences and brings each menu item to life with his vivid descriptions and recommendations. Alex and his fellow servers truly seem to enjoy spending their evening with guests and make you feel appreciated for choosing La Vetta. The whole experience is well-paced allowing guests to absorb each attention to detail and every course without feeling rushed. The food. Oh my, the food! Now you begin to understand why La Vetta's atmosphere is meant to be elegantly subdued - the food is the art and the star of the evening. Each plate is presented with the color and creativity of an artist, and every bite is an explosion of flavor and delight for the tastebuds. Having sampled at least 15 dishes from the menu over two recent evenings of dining, I can honestly give each dish the highest ratings for taste, presentation, and portion size. Each dish was fresh with flavor and spices that were delicately balanced to create a profile not needing a heavy hand with salt (a common complaint at other local restaurants). The presentations of the dishes, especially the sauces, were deliciously creative and colorful, and the servings were satisfying. Not a morsel was left on the plates despite being generous portions, every dish was just too good to be left uneaten. If you're looking for an ultra fine-dining experience in the heart of historic Savannah, La Vetta is your restaurant. You can expect to be impressed by Chef Minchillo's creatively modern Italian dishes, the hospitality of his dedicated staff, the elevated freshness and flavor of the food, and the romantic, contemporary ambiance. La Vetta is the unexpected gem that will elevate Savannah to the highest level of foodie towns and is now the diamond of Southern Cross Hospitality's long list of exceptional local restaurants. Make a reservation NOW while you can still get a table within a reasonable amount of time. You won't be disappointed!

Our party of three had an amazing experience at La Vetta. The space is beautiful, the open kitchen provides an interesting perspective into how the work gets done. Amir and Alex provided a smooth service with just the right amount of attention. Food is high end Italian with dishes inspired by the full breadth of Italian gastronomy, from the south to the north. We are locals and have been waiting for exactly this type of cuisine and service!
