Regional Austrian tapas and Gugumuck snails, at a wine-and-design concept restaurant in Gersthof
das weinberg opened on Thimiggasse in June 2026, taking over the space previously occupied by Freyenstein in Gersthof. The concept pairs wine, food, and design: a focused wine list built around Austrian producers, alongside a dining room designed as much as a showroom.
The kitchen reinterprets Austrian regional cooking as shareable, tapas-sized plates, including Vienna snails from the Gugumuck farm served with café de Paris butter, though full-size portions are available on request. A garden opens in summer, extending the wine-bar side of the concept outdoors.

A hidden culinary gem in Vienna, this exceptional restaurant in the city’s 18th district offers an authentic and refined interpretation of Austrian cuisine. Behind its elegant yet understated entrance lies a beautifully designed restaurant and bar, complemented by a tranquil garden that creates a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The menu is thoughtfully curated around seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers and producers, showcasing dishes inspired by both land and sea, alongside creative vegetarian options. Every plate reflects a strong commitment to quality, sustainability, and regional tradition. What truly elevates the experience is the warm hospitality of the owners team Marcus and Sandra, whose personal attention and genuine care ensure that every guest feels welcomed and well looked after. Their dedication to creating a memorable dining experience makes this restaurant a destination well worth visiting while in Vienna.

das weinberg has become a really special place for us and without question our favourite restaurant in Vienna. From the moment you walk through the door, Marcus and Sandra make you feel more like friends than customers, and that’s something very rare to find. Everything about this place is exceptional — the atmosphere, the warmth, the attention to detail, the beautiful wines, and most importantly the food, which is honestly outstanding every single time. Every dish feels carefully thought through, full of flavour and beautifully presented without ever feeling overcomplicated or pretentious. You can completely understand why it’s recognised in the Michelin Guide. It has that perfect balance of high-end quality whilst still feeling relaxed, welcoming and personal. Marcus and Sandra have created something truly special here, and their passion shows in every part of the experience. Whenever we come to Vienna, this is always the place we look forward to the most. A genuine hidden gem with heart, soul and some of the best food and hospitality you could ask for.

Fantastic dining experience that's very much off the beaten tourist path. We found this restaurant in a Conde Nast magazine review and this place did not disappoint. Located about 20 minutes away from central Vienna, the food and atmosphere was wonderful. We also spent some time with the owner (a former tech exec) who showed us around the restaurant which includes an amazing outdoor space plus a private "chalet" dining area. If you're looking for a very high quality meal in a very relaxed atmosphere give this place a try.

Fine dining so an expensive night but great food and really friendly service. The garden looked lovely but it was a cold evening so better for Summer so we were inside. We opted for the 5-course taster menu with wine. Both the food and wine were delicious. They also have a lovely well-trained labrador called Shiva :-)
