A modern take on the Styrian Heuriger, bringing Vulkanland wine and cooking to Mariahilf

kosTbar opened on Laimgrubengasse in January 2026, built as a hybrid between a wine bar and a modern reading of the Styrian Heuriger, the wine-tavern tradition of southeastern Styria's Vulkanland region. The kitchen sources meat, wine, and juice from organic farms wherever possible, and the short menu runs through Brettljausn platters, roast pork, Backhendl salad, and pumpkin gnocchi.

The wine list draws specifically from producers in the Südoststeiermark, a region better known in Vienna's restaurants for the odd guest bottle than a whole concept built around it. kosTbar is open Tuesday to Thursday from 4pm to 11:30pm, Friday until midnight, and Saturday from 10am.

Do not miss out on this adorable spot!! The service is SPECTACULAR and the wine is even better. There is a unique & well-curated selection of Austrian wines of many styles. Absolutely recommend!

We found this little restaurant/bar by accident but it turn out to be the best supper we had on our trip to Austria. The owner was awesome and very proud of the farm to table approach. He took the time to make recommendations and we were up to try anything. Highly recommended.

Absolutely the best in Vienna - amazing service and just fantastic food! Have the ribs, and the chicken burger and most of all the asparagus! Love this place and highly recommend to ALL!!!! They will treat you like gold!

the staff is really friendly and the restaurant looks good. the only downside for me were the food prices - a little pricey for what I was expecting. I ordered the open sandwich and my first impression was wow, but unfortunately despite having a lot of ingredients it was really really dry. the bread was too hard. it was basically toasted bread with all the ingredients on top. You can't even eat that property, everything was falling while trying to eat it. I didn't taste anything else but I don't think I will return.
