A family-run Danish-French brasserie on Risskov beach road

Chef Anders Udengaard opened Essens on Nordre Strandvej in Risskov in October 2025, running a family kitchen built on classic Danish and French dishes made from ingredients sourced close to the restaurant. The beach-road address sets it apart from the city-centre wave of new openings, pulling in Risskov locals along with diners willing to make the short trip out from town.

The kitchen runs brunch through dinner instead of sticking to one service, and has added a discounted champagne brunch to fill the quieter midweek mornings. The feel stays closer to a neighbourhood brasserie than a destination restaurant, whatever the reviews say.
