Kimpton's first Dominican hotel, built around nine patios
Zola is the ground-floor restaurant and bar. It pulls in locals who've never booked a room here. That's by design at Kimpton's first Dominican Republic property, which took over a full historic block of Calle Las Mercedes with Iberostar Group.
Madrid and New York studio Moneo Brock kept the original street facades and threaded 130 rooms around nine interior patios. A rooftop pool sits above Zola, for guests who want the view instead of the street noise.
Good to know
- Zola, the ground-floor restaurant and bar, takes non-guests and has its own local following.
- The Catedral Primada is a four-minute walk, so you can skip the taxi for the obvious sights.

Amazing hotel with an even more amazing staff. Shout out to Joel and Ricky who made it a great experience from beginning to end. Everyone was super accommodating and helpful, staff truly go above and beyond. Breakfast was excellent as well as the other restaurants the hotel provides. Pool area is nice, clean and relaxing. Hotel overall has an amazing ambiance. Will definitely return if possible in the future!

The hotel đš s in a perfect location close to all the historical sites. The breakfast is superb as well as the rooms which are exquisitely decorated. We would like to thank specially to Massie at the reception and Bianny the PR for the outstanding treatment we received! Thank you!

A Modern Oasis (With a Dash of Room-Temp Chaos) If you manage to navigate the backstreets of Santo Domingoâs Colonial Zone and find this hidden Kimpton, youâll swear youâve accidentally stepped through a portal into the year 2030. This place looks so fresh it feels like the paint dried about five minutes before we checked in. The vibe is "luxury spa meets secret agent hideout." The rooms are aggressively modern, featuring recessed ceiling lights and under-counter glows that make you feel like you're sleeping inside a high-end smartphone. There is a gorgeous green oasis courtyard, and the fourth-floor gym looks out over a stunning infinity pool. Itâs an absolute hidden gem, and it's within walking distance of the main tourist strip. That said, as a flight crew just trying to live our best lives, we had two distinct cultural experiences here. ### 1. The "Meat Locker" Dilemma If you are the type of sleeper who needs your bedroom to mimic a meat locker to get some solid shut-eye, good luck. The AC is locked at a European-style 23 degrees (73FI spent the night tossing, turning, and sweating, wondering who I had to bribe to get a crisp 18C. If you like sleeping in a gentle tropical breeze, you'll love it. If you like sleeping cold, prepare to be awake through the evening. ### 2. The Great Social Hour Bamboozle The front desk hyped up their Happy Hour (5:00 PM â 6:00 PM) promising free wine, rum, and snacks. Naturally, my First Officer and I showed up at 5:00 PM on the dot, ready to do our civic duty. What followed was a beautiful comedy of errors: * **5:01 PM:** The staff looked at us with absolute panic, as if we had arrived for a party that was scheduled for next month. They banished us to a corner of the restaurant. * **5:05 PM:** The manager glided over and magnanimously offered us red wine, white wine, or their special Tequila Cocktail. Excellent. * **5:10 PM:** A waiter appeared. We asked for the tequila. He confidently informed us that tequila costs extra. I had to explain, *"Sir, your boss literally just offered it to us."* He retreated, looking profoundly confused. * **5:15 PM:** A *different* waiter materialized and proudly presented us with two drinks, announcing they were mocktails. Now *we* were confused. Did we look like we wanted juice? * **5:20 PM:** We downed the mystery mocktails, after which they finally brought the actual wine, which thankfully hit the spot. > **Note:** We are still looking for the "snacks" the front desk promised. We suspect they are hidden in the same secret vault as the AC thermostat. > ### The Verdict They are clearly still working out the kinks of their social hour, but itâs a beautiful hotel. If I were here on vacation, Iâd absolutely stay againâprovided they let me hack the thermostat.

Best hotel! The staff were truly incredibleâattentive, welcoming, and consistently going above and beyond. Every aspect of the hotelâfrom the rooms to the pool, gym, spa, and restaurantsâwas impeccably clean and thoughtfully maintained. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxing, with stunning views from the rooftop that really elevate the experience. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and absolutely immaculate. I also felt very safe and secure throughout my stay, which made it even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this hotel and canât wait to return!

We ended up here unexpectedly after our flight was canceled and what was supposed to be a quick stop turned into 48 hours. It could have been a stressful, frustrating experience â but this hotel completely changed that. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. Esther, Ashley, and Yuliki went far beyond what anyone would reasonably expect, helping us communicate with the airline, figure out next steps, and feel supported during a really chaotic time. They were calm, proactive, and genuinely kind. Weâre incredibly grateful for them. The entire hotel is impeccably designed and spotless. Every space feels thoughtful and elevated without being overdone. The staff across the board were warm and professional. Breakfast was excellent, and the gym was one of the best weâve ever seen at any hotel â spacious, well-equipped, and filled with state-of-the-art equipment. What could have been a miserable 48 hours turned into a genuinely positive experience because of this team. We would absolutely stay here again â this time, hopefully by choice. Oh, and shout out to Miguel for great help with the baggage!
