Herbal pantry cooking that earned a Michelin star fast
Chef Avan built the tasting menu around the family's Chinese herbal medicine business, using fresh herbs and medicinal roots the way most kitchens use salt and stock. The Iberico pork menu runs NT$2,200, the US Prime filet NT$2,980, plus service, over a dinner that stretches close to three hours.
Hābu opened on Zhengqin Road in Qianzhen and landed a Michelin star in its first year of eligibility. That star means a waitlist now, so book ahead, and skip Sunday or Monday since it's closed both days.

I forgot to leave a review during my meal 🥹 The food was delicious and the experience was great! The staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely worth visiting again. For this price, it's very worthwhile 🫶🏻

Habu, which received a Michelin recommendation this year, has the potential to earn stars in the future. The pacing and overall experience of the meal were excellent. The chef's use of spices and traditional Chinese medicine was masterful; they didn't overpower the ingredients but rather served as embellishments, elevating the entire dining experience. Every dish was a highlight. I would definitely visit again.

I initially expected a meal with a strong herbal flavor, but it was completely different. It's unlike typical fine dining; here, you can touch the ingredients with your hands and smell their original aromas up close. Not just taste, but sight and touch are also activated. The entire dining experience feels like using all five senses to remember a dish. At the end of the meal, there was a lovely little detail: A bottle of hydrosol-based fragrance as a gift, with a scent you chose upon being seated (herbal, winterwood, or floral).

I had a poor experience with the predecessor, Baicao Zhixuan. My friends who ate there all gave it good reviews. A friend who went to Baicao with me before, unaware it was the predecessor, said it was delicious. When I told them it was the predecessor, they felt it was quite different. I was fortunate enough to visit with a friend. The decor was a complete leap forward. It's definitely not a location with a river view. Three scented hand towels to choose from. The soup was mixed with a soothing herbal broth, but it tasted like beef soup from other places. Even though I dislike herbal broth, I found it comforting. Five appetizers, all very unique. I liked two of them. The later stewed dishes were delicious, although they contained taro, which I dislike, but it didn't taste like taro at all; it was very fragrant and quite good. The soup, made by the chef, had a texture of buckwheat noodles and ramen noodles—crispy, chewy, and super delicious. The sauce was also excellent. The soup with oysters had a strangely familiar feel, with a slight numbing sensation from the Sichuan peppercorns. The oysters were decent, but not particularly memorable. The ice cream in the middle was made with hawthorn. I really enjoyed it. The grilled items were the only ones I liked the most. This is purely a matter of personal taste; I don't like meat with sweet sauces. The main courses were fairly average, but they came with a lot of sauces, so you could mix and match as you like, which was quite nice. For dessert, there was strawberry ice cream and caramel cookies. The caramel cookies were too sweet, but the combination with the strawberry ice cream was a perfect sweet and sour pairing! There were also some mochi-like fillings. I would definitely come back just for this dessert. My meal cost 27xx per person, which is a very reasonable price!

A restaurant soon to be selected for the Bib Gourmand, but its décor may not meet the one-star standard!! The dedication to ingredients and the overall experience will shatter your preconceived notions about traditional Chinese medicine... A high-end restaurant hidden in an old neighborhood...
