The Bib Gourmand eel house, back from the dead

Thirty years as one of Taipei's four great unagi houses earned Hamamatsuya a Bib Gourmand, then its owner fell ill and the doors shut. New backers reopened it in 2025 on the same Linsen North Road lane, keeping the original kitchen and floor staff and adding a longer izakaya menu.

The eel still flies in live from Hamamatsu and gets butchered to order. Go for the hitsumabushi-style eel three ways. Former president Lee Teng-hui used to eat here every year.
