Warm hummus and a grandmother's story, from Alon Shaya

The hummus comes out warm under whatever the kitchen is braising that week, and the pita bakes to order in a wood oven built into the dining room. Safta is Hebrew for grandmother; 1964 is the year Shaya's family left Israel.

Safta 1964 opened at the Wynn in April 2024, the New Orleans chef's first serious move into Israeli cooking on the property. It builds on the story he began telling at Shaya in 2015.
